A Twist of Fate EP, 2003
Epic Prog Metal

"John Arch's glorious return.

His voice is even more interesting than before, although the melodies are generally less operatic and intricate than on the three first Fates Warning albums - which I missed the first couple of times I listened to this EP (which is interesting since it took me quite some time to get used to his vocals with Fates Warning), but I quickly realized that what he does vocally on this EP fits the two songs perfectly.

Musically, the songs are very interesting and dynamically structured, and they do not sound like Fates Warning songs - in fact, the most Fates Warning-esque element is the drums, which sound more like Mark Zonder than Mike Portnoy (apart from a couple of typical Portnoy-drumfills) - which is quite interesting, I think. While, rhythmically, the EP is mostly straightforward, there are a couple of odd time signatures including a 7/4, but in a Turn-It-On-Again-like fashion these are disguised very well... try and find them yourself ;-)

The two songs on this album are simply great pieces of prog metal!"
